The winner of the PFA Fans Player of the Month Award for the Premier League was announced today. The winner was Fernando Torres of Liverpool.
Torres was recognised by football fans across the country, who voted on givemefootball.com and, for the first time, via text, as the month’s best players across each League.
Torres’ performances, as well as his goals and blossoming partnership with Steven Gerrard, made him a clear winner in the PFA 2UP Fans’ awards for the last month. He scored an impressive seven Premier League and Champions League goals in total. The announcement of Torres’ award comes at a time when he and his Liverpool colleagues are preparing to go into Euro battle with Arsenal, starting at the Emirates tonight.
Reds’ boss Rafa Benitez believes the super Spaniard could make all the difference to Liverpool’s chances of reaching the last four. Benitez said: “Fernando knows he is a key player for us, and he knows that if we play well he will score goals. I would expect Fernando to work just as he has done before. This, though, is Europe and I know he wants to play well and score more goals.”
