Xabi puts speculation on hold

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has vowed not to discuss his future until after Euro 2008 has finished.

The Spaniard insists he is fully concentrating on playing for his country, who kick off their campaign against Russia later today, although Alonso is not expected to start.

Alonso has been heavily linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus, following in the footsteps of fellow Red Momo Sissoko who left Anfield for Turin in January.

He told Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, “I know there is interest. But right now I not going to talk about that because there is enough to think about here with the national team.”

Spain vs Russia kicks off at 5pm and is live on BBC One.
