Rafa looks to Keane

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has revealed how he has every confidence that £18m summer signing Robbie Keane can provide cover for the injured Fernando Torres over the coming games.

Torres is set to miss Saturday’s Premier League clash at home to Wigan, the mid-week Champions League visit to his former club Atletico Madrid and the crucial league match at Chelsea next weekend after suffering a hamstring injury whilst on international duty for Spain this week.

But Benitez believes Keane can step forward and provide the goals in Torres’ absence.

He told the club’s official website, “When we signed Robbie we were looking for a striker with experience in the Premier League, someone with quality who could score goals.

“That is why we signed him, so hopefully now with him being on fire with the national team this will be an opportunity for him.

“It’s important for the players when they go away to play well, and when they score goals it’s great for their confidence. It’s very good.”
