Benitez fury at Spurs conduct

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is unhappy at the way Tottenham Hotspur made an approach for their former striker Robbie Keane this week.

With speculation flying around about Keane’s future at Anfield, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp made it publicly known he would like the Republic of Ireland international back at White Hart Lane.

Benitez has responded by saying, “They have to do things properly. They have to make an official offer and we will say yes or no.

“I think he is a long-term part of our plans, I hope he scores lots of goals.”

Liverpool almost got into trouble last summer when they signed Keane for £20.3million from the North London club by the way they dealt with the transfer saga. The Reds were let off the hook by Spurs after donating money to a charity of the club’s choice.

Benitez continued, “I do not think that they have come in with an offer. He has been training this week very well, he is our player and he is trying to make sure he is ready for the next match.

“We were very, very correct when we signed Robbie even though Spurs were complaining. Now we have this situation to deal with.

“You must do things properly, especially when you have complained about everybody when he first joined us.”
