Thursday’s Transfer Rumours

The January transfer window is finally open and don’t the press and rumour mills of this world know it! There’s speculation flying around everywhere. Look hard enough and you’ll probably find a report linking every player in the Premier League with a move to Manchester City, and Arsenal with any striker in the world. As for Liverpool, here’s a round-up of the latest transfer talk in and out of Anfield’¦

  • Rafa Benitez is fed up of the poor form of defender Andrea Dossena and is set to send him back to Italy, and will accept losing some of the £7million transfer paid to Udinese for his services last summer. (The Mirror)
  • Although Benitez says he is not interested in signing him, Michael Owen is still hoping on a move this month back to Anfield. Owen was one of the first players sold by Benitez when he came to the club in 2004. (Daily Telegraph)
  • Emile Heskey is likely to re-join Liverpool from Wigan for £4m. (The Independent)
  • Former Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia could make a surprise return to the Premier League this month with Tottenham, Blackburn and Portsmouth interested in the Spaniard, who left the Reds for Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007. (Liverpool Echo)
  • Rafa Benitez will have to sell players to raise the cash to buy players this January transfer window with the club, or co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett offering no transfer kitty. (The Telegraph)
  • Liverpool have shown interest in 20-year-old Brazilian Keirrison Keirrison, currently playing at Coritiba in his homeland. (Setanta Sports)
  • Daniel Agger is set to leave Liverpool on an £8million transfer to Italian giants AC Milan after admitting defeat in winning a place in Rafa Benitez’s first choice eleven, with the return of Martin Skrtel from injury imminent. (Daily Mail)
  • Hull City boss Phil Brown is interested in taking Jermaine Pennant. (Various)
