Rafa targets 9 win run

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez believes his side must win their final nine remaining games of the season to claim their first league title since 1990.

After seeing the Reds to impressive victories over both Real Madrid and Manchester United in the space of a week, Benitez believes the chance to lift both the Premier League trophy and European Cup is still on.

However, with Manchester United still four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand, Benitez knows it’s going to take something special to close the gap.

“We have beaten Real Madrid and Manchester United in the same week. If we can beat them, we can beat anybody,” said the Spaniard.

“Realistically, we have to win all of our games. But we have more belief and more confidence now and we can stay closer to them. It will be difficult but we can do it.

“You never know what can happen in football but we know how much experience and quality United have in their squad.”

The Reds have an arguably kind end to the season with games against Aston Villa (h), Fulham (a), Blackburn Rovers (h), Arsenal (h), Hull City (a), Newcastle Utd (h), West Ham (a), West Brom (a), Tottenham Hotspur (h) still to play. Five of those nine teams are in the bottom half of the table, still facing a relegation battle.
