Utd take lead over Reds

Manchester United beat Portsmouth 2-0 at Old Trafford last night to regain top spot of the Premier League and go three points clear with the end of the season in sight now.

Liverpool’s epic 4-4 draw at home to Arsenal on Tuesday night had temporarily sent the Reds top of the league on goal difference, but United’s victory means they’re in pole position to retain their title now.

Goals early and late in the game from Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick earned Utd the victory and Portsmouth will be disappointed as it looked for long periods of the second half that they perhaps deserved to come away with a draw.

United also have a game in hand, away at Wigan as their penultimate game of the season, so could finish six points clear should they win that.

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of the draw to Arsenal when they travel to Hull City this Saturday (kick-off 3pm). Utd play in-form Tottenham Hotspur at home in the 5.30pm kick-off.
