Skrtel tips Gerrard to be even better

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has backed Reds skipper Steven Gerrard to be even more outstanding next season, in a week that has seen the midfielder win the Football Writers’ Player of the Year award.

Gerrard has been outstanding this season for Liverpool in their title challenge to Manchester United ‘“ which isn’t over yet. But injuries have seen him miss a handful of games and Skrtel believes if Gerrard gets his luck with injuries next season, he could prove to be an even bigger problem to Premier League opposition.

The Slovakian international said, “We’ll see if he gets even better. This season has been good for him but when you think about it he’s had a lot of injuries and has missed games. Next year hopefully he’ll be without injuries and can get even more goals.

“He’s scored a lot of goals. To have 23 goals is a big thing for a midfielder – he is not a striker. It’s very good.

“Stevie is a big player with big quality and, for me, he has absolutely been the best this year.”
