Gerrard scores in Reds victory

Just hours after being cleared of affray, Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard was in action for a Liverpool XI side against Tranmere last night.

Unable to make it out to meet the first team squad in Singapore this weekend, Gerrard continued his pre-season preparations by playing the first hour of the 2-2 draw at Prenton Park.

Gerrard’s strike came after Chris Shuker had given Tranmere a first half lead.

The home team looked to have won the game when Gareth Edds scored again, but an injury time penalty from Adam Hammill saved the Reds from defeat.

The night also saw the appearance of new Tranmere management team John Barnes and Jason McAteer, as well as former Liverpool youngster John Welsh.
