Gerrard leaves England set-up

Steven Gerrard has withdrawn from the England squad to play Holland in Amsterdam tomorrow night.

The Liverpool skipper pulled up in training with a slight groin strain, although his withdrawal from the squad is said to be precautionary.

With the Premier League season getting underway this weekend, Gerrard is taking no chances with injury and has returned to Merseyside.

Fellow Red Glen Johnson stays in Holland for Wednesday night’s friendly, which could see him play against both Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel.
