Liverpool have agreed a fee with Real Madrid over the sale of midfielder Xabi Alonso.
After months of speculation surrounding the Spanish international, the transfer saga appears to be coming to an end with Alonso set to meet with Madrid officials on Wednesday.
It is understood that Reds boss Rafa Benitez has reluctantly agreed a fee of around £30million for Alonso with Roma’s Alberto Aquilani lined-up as his replacement at Anfield.
A statement on Real’s official web site read, “Xabi Alonso will arrive at the Bernabeu on Wednesday to undergo the required medical”.
It is thought the deal will be completed within 48 hours.
