Reserves set for Prenton Park bow

Liverpool’s Reserves team will get life at their new home ground of Prenton Park underway this evening when they take on Bolton Wanderers Reserves.

After losing their opening game of the season 3-2 at Blackburn Reserves last week, John McMahon hopes his side can improve at Tranmere Rovers’ ground tonight.

He told the club’s official web site, “It’s always difficult losing games and there’s a lot we can improve on from last week,” he added.

“In spells we looked bright and lively but we paid the price for taking our foot off the gas.

“We like to be thorough in our preparation and I went to watch Bolton reserves take on Manchester United last week to get a sneak preview of what we are likely to come up against.

“They are a hard working team and it will be a real good test for us. We need to match their work ethic on the night and hopefully we can come out on top.”

McMahon spent eight years on the coaching team at Tranmere and also had two spells as caretaker manager, so he hopes the Reserves’ new home ground will provide a good new home.

“Prenton Park holds good memories for me and I learned my trade there when John Aldridge brought me in as a youth coach,” he continued.

“I had some fantastic times at Tranmere and I learned a lot of things. The club was always good to me and it will be nice to play our home matches there.

“Hopefully we can be strong, get some good results and put in some good performances.

“First and foremost we needed a good surface to play on and Prenton Park always provides that so we are looking forward to playing our games at Tranmere.”

Liverpool Reserves vs Bolton Reserves gets underway at 7pm.
