Liverpool winger Yossi Benayoun says he has always been impressed with Pepe Reina and that the Spanish goalkeeper’s form in the opening few weeks of the new season has proved how important he is to the team.
Reina has been in fine form, producing match-winning saves as the Reds get their Premier League title challenge underway and Benayoun says his teammate’s form shouldn’t go unnoticed.
He said, “Ever since I’ve been at the club Pepe has played at a really high level,” Benayoun said.
“He is one of our main players and he has been excellent for us again in the opening weeks of the season.
“He made a vital save to deny Matt Taylor at Bolton and he has done the same in the other matches. It’s just great to have him as a team-mate.
“In my opinion he is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
“He never lets us down and we know we can trust him all the time.”
Benayoun looks set to play in Israel’s World Cup 2010 Qualifier at home to Latvia on Saturday.
