Benitez keeping close eye on international stars

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez says he will be watching tonight’s international games closely and hoping there are no further injuries to Reds players.

Dirk Kuyt, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres have all picked up injuries during this two week international break for World Cup Qualifiers and Daniel Agger played a full 90 minutes for Denmark, despite not having kicked a ball for Liverpool this season.

“I will be in front of the television watching the games,” said Benitez. “You never know which one you will watch as there are different options. If Agger is playing for Denmark I could watch that, or if Torres is playing for Spain and the game is on our TV then I might watch that one.

“It’s the same with every international break, I just have my fingers crossed that there are no injuries.”

Steven Gerrard has withdrawn from the England squad for this evening’s final World Cup Qualifier against Belarus at Wembley Stadium with a groin injury. However Glen Johnson is expected to make an appearance.

Fernando Torres is not likely to play for Spain tonight, though fellow Reds Pepe Reina and Albert Riera are likely to feature at some point.

Martin Skrtel (Slovakia), Yossi Benayoun (Israel), Javier Mascherano (Argentina) and Emiliano Insua (Argentina) are all expected to be playing tonight also.
