Ex-Red Hamann wants to play on

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann says he is desperate to get back into football after finding himself still without a club, three months after being released by Manchester City.

The European Cup 2005 winner told German newspaper Mittelbayerische Zeitung that he believes he still has a couple more years left in his playing career before he considers football management.

He said, “I would really like to play on for one or even two years, but just if there is the right offer coming in.

“I have the desire to further play on at a high standard. I had been in touch with Markus Babbel and VfB Stuttgart in August, unfortunately the club decided the other way then.

“I am not going to make any statements on hypothetical chances, but if there is a club with a name and a tradition such as ‘Sechzig’ I would really start to think about it.”

Hamann made 191 appearances for Liverpool between 1999 and 2006, before being sold to Bolton Wanderers who immediately sold him on to Manchester City after a change in heart by Hamann.
