Rafa fears Riera and Benayoun have torn hamstrings

Both Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun will undergo tests today to determine the impact of their injuries which forced both players off during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham City at Anfield last night.

Riera was forced off just moments before half time, and Benayoun half-way through the second half with fears that both have torn their hamstrings – and injury that could put them out of action for months.

After the game Reds boss Rafa Benitez told press, “Riera had the same problem as before. The players are sometimes available but not 100 per cent ready. We thought he was okay but in the end you can see he wasn’t.

“Yossi has the same problem as Riera. Some players are playing too many games in a row. They are working very hard and so you always have this risk. I think both will have tears.”

Benitez also reported that Daniel Agger had a reoccurrence of his back injury that forced him out of the early stages of this season.

He added, “Agger also had a problem with his back. It’s not serious but he felt it a little bit.”
