Chelsea add to Liverpool misery

Match Summary

Chelsea rounded off a(nother) bad week for Liverpool by comfortably beating the Reds 2-0 at Anfield to sum up a miserable season, in Liverpool’s final home game of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Frank Lampard Chelsea scores 2nd goal

Having crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday night to the hands of Atletico Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti’s men stepped up with victory that moves them closer to the Premier League title.

In a slow game throughout, Steven Gerrard gifted the Blues the lead just after the half hour mark, his pass back to Reina allowing Didier Drogba to sneak in and finish in front of the Kop.

Chelsea then went on to comfortably finish the match shortly after the break, Frank Lampard converting a Nicolas Anelka cross.

Several saves from Liverpool’s player of the season Pepe Reina stopped the scoreline being more comfortable for the title chasing Londoners.

Liverpool failed to muster a shot on target until injury time as Reds fans were left to wander whether Rafa Benitez will be back at Anfield next season.
