Marseille manager Didier Deschamps has rejected an approach from Liverpool. The Reds are currently searching for a successor to Rafa Benitez who left the club 3 weeks ago.

Managing director Christian Purslow approached the Frenchman with a view to interviewing and discussing the move with him but Deschamps has chosen to remain at Marseille.

“I am happy at Marseille. I am not there for just one year. A coach must be there for the long haul, and that is my wish,” he said.

Liverpool are believed to have held talks with former Real Madrid manager Manuel Pellegrini, who met with Kenny Dalglish just over a week ago, and now Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has returned from South Africa where he was commenting for the BBC, he remains the favourite to take over at Anfield.
