Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will be paid £3million compensation to leave the club, according to reports tonight.
Reports from several sources including newspapers and television stations suggest that the board are making moves to sack the Spaniard.
Some murmurings say Benitez has already walked, just a year after he signed a new five year deal with the club. It is understood that the remainder of his contract is worth £16million.
However, The Telegraph believe the club won’t be so lucky to escape a big pay-off for Benitez’s dismissal.
Benítez has four years remaining on his £5 million a-year contract, potentially entitling him to £20 million, but Liverpool hope to agree a reduced compromise figure of no more than £15 million.
The news broke on Wednesday evening and was first reported by The Mirror’s David Maddock, a known confidant of Christian Purslow’s.
Reports late on Wednesday evening in Italy claim Benitez will join Inter Milan.
Liverpool FC though have refused to comment and Benitez is currently on holiday, his agent said “We don’t know anything more than what’s being said. We’re not saying anything.”
Benitez arrived at Anfield in June 2004, winning the Champions League in his first season and the FA Cup a year later in 2006. He took charge of 350 games at LFC.
