Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles has admitted he has found it difficult to adjust to the Premier League since joining the club in the summer, but is now feeling comfortable.

The Portuguese international was one of Roy Hodgson’s first signings after impressing during the World Cup with his country, before completing an £11.5million switch from Porto.

He says the Premier League is much more competitive than the Portuguese Liga, but he has found his feet.

“The Premier League is difficult and it has been difficult playing in England because all the teams you come up against are good,” said the 27-year-old.

“This is more competitive but I am feeling more comfortable. When you are winning, things are always better and all the players are helping me.

“We played some very good football against West Ham. We will continue to work hard and I hope my performances can keep improving.”
