Torres transfer latest, competition for Adam

The Fernando Torres transfer saga of the last few days rumbles on this morning with no definitive ending in sight.

It is expected that Chelsea will launch a renewed bid for the striker of around £40million, with some anticipating Nicolas Anelka could be part of the deal – paving the way for a return to Anfield for the French striker.

January’s transfer window closes at the end of play tomorrow (Monday 31st January), and as it stands Fernando Torres will remain a Liverpool player.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has welcomed the potential signing of Torres at Stamford Bridge

“Players of a top, top level and world-class players will always help your squad,” Lampard said.

“It remains to be seen what happens with the club – who they bring in and who the manager wants to bring in – but they’ll always be very welcome from us.”

Meanwhile it is reported this morning that Manchester United may be stepping in with a late bid for Liverpool target, Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam.

It is no secret that Ferguson is an admirer of the Scottish international and now it seems Utd and the Reds are in a race for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Liverpool are thought to be preparing an £8million bid for Adam after seeing two smaller bids turned down by the Tangerines.
