Andy Carroll flies to Prague

Andy Carroll will travel with the rest of the Liverpool squad for this Thursday’s Europa League clash against Sparta Prague, but won’t play in the game.

Liverpool’s record £35million striker is currently out of action with a thigh injury, though has recently resumed light training and hopes to make his Reds debut against Manchester Utd at Anfield on March 6th.

Kenny Dalglish confirmed, “He won’t be considered for the game but will travel just to get in and amongst the lads. It’ll help him to feel a part of it.”

Meanwhile, as reported earlier, 16-year-old Raheem Sterling has been called-up to the first team squad for the trip after scoring five of the Liverpool Youth Team’s nine goals against Southend in the FA Youth Cup on Monday night.

Joe Cole also makes the cut, whilst Raul Meireles travels despite being substituted early with a bug against Wigan at the weekend.

Christian Poulsen doesn’t travel after his wife went into labour, whilst captain Steven Gerrard is also rested.

Daniel Agger is out with a groin strain.

Liverpool squad vs Sparta Prague: Reina, Jones, Gulacsi, Johnson, Flanagan, Aurelio, Robinson, Kyrgiakos, Wilson, Carragher, Kelly, Skrtel, Meireles, Cole, Maxi, Jovanovic, Lucas, Coady, Ince, Sterling, Pacheco, Kuyt, Ngog.

Sparta Prague vs Liverpool gets underway at 8.05pm on Thursday night.
