New Dirk Kuyt deal imminent

Dirk Kuyt is expected to put pen to paper on extending his stay at Liverpool shortly, declaring he cans sense “there is something good happening here”.

Kuyt was heavily linked with a move to join former boss Rafa Benitez at Inter Milan last summer, before committing his future to Liverpool.

Last summer he told press, “The point for me was that I am 30 years old and I wanted to know if there was any interest from any other club in the world. Liverpool spoke to me and explained everything. They said I was really important. That made me very proud and at that point I focussed my thoughts on Liverpool.”

Kuyt has one year left on his current deal beyond this summer, but told the club’s official website this week that he has no intention of leaving Merseyside.

“My contract has one more season to go after this but there are things happening,” he said.

“We have had some talks and I can only say it looks positive.

“I feel at home in Liverpool and I don’t want to leave here.

“It has been a difficult time for everyone at the club with the changes that have happened since last summer but now I can sense something good is happening – I think Liverpool are on the way back.”
