Aston Villa are prepared to let midfielder Stewart Downing leave the club, providing they get £19m for the former Middlesbrough player, according to reports.
Downing, 27 next month, has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool but the asking price could put off manager Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli.
Alternatives to Downing include Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia, St. Etienne’s French winger Dimitri Payet.
Downing and Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam have been heavily linked with making moves to Liverpool this summer as Dalglish assembles a squad of British talent.
