Krygiakos joins Wolfsburg

Sotirios Kyrgiakos has joined German side VfL Wolfsburg on a two-year deal.

The Greek defender, 32, joined Liverpool in 2009, after Sami Hyypia left, and this summer received an automatic contract extension after triggering a clause from appearances made last season.

In total Kyrgiakos made 49 appearances for the Reds, scoring three goals. He became somewhat a cult-hero at Anfield during his two year spell.

With Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger ahead of the Big Greek, his first team opportunities this season were set to be limited. And with speculation that another new centre back could be arriving – the latest name being Uruguayan Sebastian Coates.

6 foot 6 inch Coates, 20, was part of Uruguay’s Copa America winning side and is linked with a £12m move in The Telegraph.
