Gerrard is key to ignite Carroll’s career

Andy Carroll believes the return of Steven Gerrard to Liverpool’s first team will provide the spark he needs to kick start his Reds career.

Carroll has struggled in terms of goals since his £35million move from Newcastle last January, but due to injuries to both players, has rarely played with Gerrard.

Gerrard recently returned from injury after being out since October and Carroll says the captain’a return gives not only him, but the rest of the squad a huge boost.

In fact, Carroll and Gerrard have only played in the same team nine times.

Carroll said, “We haven’t had the chance to start many games together.

“I think I may have been a sub when he’s started or he has been a sub when I have so it’s nice to see him back.

“When you’re on the same team as him in training, some of the passes he puts through for you and the chances he creates are incredible really.

“So hopefully I can keep working hard, get a nice run of games, give some good performances and get a few goals.

“If I can get a good run, hopefully that can kick-start me on again.”
