Carling Cup Final 2012
Sunday, 26th February 2012, Wembley Stadium
Liverpool secured a record eighth League Cup victory in another dramatic Final – defeating Cardiff on penalties.
The Championship side had taken the lead after 19 minutes through Joe Mason, but Martin Skrtel equalised just before half-time.
With the game at 1-1 after 90 minutes it was another extra time for the Reds’ and substitute Dirk Kuyt put Kenny Dalglish‘s side ahead, only for Ben Turner to scramble home for the Bluebirds in the final minutes of extra-time.
The penalty shoot out then saw Steven Gerrard and Charlie Adam both miss for Liverpool but the Reds eventually won through 3-2 after Glen Johnson scored and Anthony Gerrard, cousin of Steven, put his decisive penalty wide.
