LFC impressing in Boston training

by Mark Poletti, in Boston

We took in Monday’s training session at Harvard University in Boston where Liverpool continued their training camp on their North America tour.

The Reds players enjoyed their first day off yesterday since arriving in the States last week but it was back to the hard work come Monday.

The England six, plus new signing Fabio Borini, were not in attendance, with their flight due in to Boston later in the afternoon. They will train separately on Tuesday as they get back into shape.

Those who did train did so at high intensity. Training was split into two sessions to begin with – one focussing on sharp, quick play; the other on crossing and finishing.

There were impressive moments from youngsters Suso and Jordan Ibe – and Lucas Leiva, while owner John W. Henry was again in attendance.

Everything was done at full speed, with high intensity and on the floor. Training progressed to half-pitch, narrowed, with full goals – high intensity in small spaces – as Brendan Rodgers continued to set his style of play on the Reds.

After training we asked Joe Cole if he would be staying at LFC, to which he responded “hopefully”.

Jose Enrique was absent from the morning training, assuming he picked up a minor knock in the friendly with Toronto on Saturday night.

The second session on Monday saw a more tactical practice take place, using the full field to work on shape and team play.

The Liverpool players face AS Roma at Fenway Park on Wednesday night. We’ll have plenty more reports and photos from all the Reds training and promo events this week.
