Liverpool are in a battle with Arsenal for the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan from the Bernabeu.
A decision over the Turkish international’s future is expected to be announced in the next couple of days with the Reds leading the way for his capture.
But Brendan Rodgers’ pursuit of talent in La Liga may not stop there, with reports from several media outlets suggesting he is set to swoop for Barcelona’s Christian Tello.
Tello, a 21-year-old winger-come-striker, is out of contract with the Catalan club next summer, so may be available slightly cheaper this summer.
Barca may offer the highly-rated youngster a new contract, then loan him to Liverpool. Reports on Tuesday suggest LFC managing director Ian Ayre is in Spain to discuss both the Tello and Sahin deals.
Meanwhile, the Reds are also continuing to eye up Fulham striker Clint Dempsey, with midfielder Charlie Adam now thought to have been formally offered to The Cottagers as part of the deal for the American forward.
