Tuesday’s LFC Transfer Rumours: Reds in for double Schalke swoop?

Liverpool have been linked to two Schalke players as rumours grow around building Brendan Rodgers’ squad in the January transfer window.

The Reds have been linked with 22-year-old German international midfielder Lewis Holtby, whose current deal at the Bundesliga side expires next summer.

Holtby, who was brought up an Everton fan, has an English father but chose to play for Germany.

It is understood that an unnamed English club has made an approach for Holtby.

“Lewis is very good at Schalke but above all there is an English club which has made a very interesting proposal,” Markus Noack, Holtby’s agent, told calciomercato.com.

It is possible though, that these comments from Holtby’s agent are an attempt to push Shalke into offering an improved new deal for the highly rated midfielder.

Meanwhile, speculation is intensifying over the future of Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Huntelaar impressed the English game last week when he scored one of Schalke’s goals in their 2-0 victory over Arsenal last week in the Champions League.

The 29-year-old is being reported to be ready for a new challenge in his career, although it is widely known in the Bundesliga, that he prefers to stay with Schalke as they are located in Gelenskirchen, just a two hour drive from his hometown of Achterhoek in Holland.
