Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo, subject to paperwork going through.
Apas, 25, arrives for a reported £7.7m. He is a versatile, left-footed, player who can play anywhere across the attacking positions.
Last weekend the Spaniard explained how he turned down other offers to join Liverpool. “When I heard of Liverpool’s interest I did not hesitate even for a minute” he enthused.
A simple statement on the club’s official website this evening (Thursday) reads:
Liverpool have tonight agreed a deal in principle with Celta Vigo for striker Iago Aspas, subject to documentation being completed.
Last night the player returned to Spain after completing his medical on Merseyside, with his agent citing “bureaucratic issues” as the only stumbling block over sealing the deal.
The statement adds:
During the campaign he was directly involved in 51 per cent of his team’s goals.

Aspas is the second player to join the club this summer, following the free transfer signing of Manchester City defender Kolo Toure.
The Reds have also been linked with moves for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and Sevilla’s Luis Alberto in recent days.
Meanwhile, the question over whether Aspas will play at Liverpool with Luis Suarez is still unanswered. The Uruguayan is now on international duty at the Confederations Cup, with his future unclear.
Welcome to Liverpool, Iago Aspas.
