Report: Liverpool consider Benteke and Mignolet in double Belgian swoop

The international break is over and summer has officially begun. That means the transfer window is coming and the rumour mill is in full swing.

To cut a long story short, today the Daily Mail link Liverpool with a move for much-talked-about Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, as a possible replacement for Luis Suarez.

Suarez’s future is still unclear, with the paper reporting he could “force through his move to either Real Madrid or Atletico.”

It is no doubt that Brendan Rodgers is a fan of Benteke, after a dazzling couple of performances for Villa against the Reds this season.

Earlier in the campaign he described the then 21-year-old, now 22, Belgian international as “outstanding.”

Benteke’s future at Villa Park is up in the air with several top European clubs said to be interested.

The Daily Mail report:

Benteke, 22, is set for further talks over his future once he returns from international duty with Belgium.

Meanwhile Liverpool could be stepping up their efforts to sign another Belgian.

The Guardian this morning pick up the story we brought you yesterday regarding the prospect of the Reds targeting Sunderland‘s Simon Mignolet as a replacement for Pepe Reina, should the Spaniard leave Liverpool this summer.

The newspaper claim that Mignolet is the Reds’ first choice target should Reina wave goodbye on his seven year career at Anfield.

Liverpool have already been linked with moves for several goalkeepers, including Stoke City shot stopper Asmir Begovic.

The Guardian says:

Sunderland would naturally fight to retain the Belgium international, who has swept the club’s and supporters’ player of the year awards, but Liverpool are hopeful he would be tempted by a move to Merseyside and that he would cost less than the £15m Stoke City want for Begovic.

Just another day at the rumour mill…
