Liverpool striker Luis Suarez became the Uruguayan national team’s leading goalscorer of all time with his 34th and 35th international goal as his country thrashed lowly Tahiti 8-0 in the Confederations Cup on Sunday night.

Suarez came off the bench in the eight goal rout to put away Uruguay’s seventh and eighth of the game, both within the last ten minutes.

The 26-year-old, whose future at Anfield is “under control” according to manager Brendan Rodgers, twisted and turned on the edge of the penalty area with precision control before expertly finishing with a low left-foot shot for his first on 82 minutes.

The second was another delightful piece of magic from the Reds number 7, firing low from the edge of the box after a quick break from the Uruguayans in injury time.

The 8-0 scoreline means Uruguay progress to the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup where they will meet tournament hosts Brazil on Wednesday 26 June in Belo Horizonte.
