Steven Gerrard described Liverpool’s performance in their 3-0 victory at Man United on Sunday as “magnificent”, saying it is important the Reds have turned their away form around.
The Reds skipper scored two penalties, but missed a third, before Luis Suarez sealed the victory late on to wrap up a comprehensive 3-0 victory for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
It was a result that moves Liverpool back to second in the Premier League, and after Chelsea‘s 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday, throws the title race wide open.
It was also Liverpool’s first victory at Old Trafford for five years when they beat their arch rivals 4-1 under Rafa Benitez.
“I’ve come here many times and been played off the park. They’re a fantastic team,” he told Sky Sports.
“This is one of the most difficult places to come in the Premier League so to come here and dominate from start to finish, we’re still going away slightly disappointed that we never got more goals.
“It’s a fantastic day personally, getting a couple of goals. We came here to win the game.
“I said before the game it’s difficult and we need to just take each game as they come and try and win them all.
“We’ll enjoy tonight. We need to move on very quickly because Cardiff’s going to be tough.
“I think we’ve shown today that we’re genuine contenders and we’re going to fight to the end for this.”
Cardiff v Liverpool gets underway at 3pm next Saturday, 22nd March, before the Reds return to Anfield for two home games against Sunderland and Tottenham before the end of the month.
