Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admitted his side were second best as they lost the FA Cup semi final against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Bizarrely though, Rodgers claimed captain Steven Gerrard was “excellent” in the game and that “sometimes you can want to win too much”.
“We’ve come close now in two competitions but failed to make the step, but hopefully in the future we can learn from that,” he added.
Liverpool’s season is now pretty much over, with fourth place a slim chance and no FA Cup final. It means that Rodgers’ three aims for the season—top four, a trophy, and reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League—have all ended in failure.
