Brazilian legend Ronaldinho has been talking up the qualities of his compatriot Philippe Coutinho, saying that Little Phil would be a “perfect fit” for Barcelona.
Coutinho was named Liverpool’s player of the year last week and also made the PFA team of the year for the season.
The 22-year-old was one of the few Liverpool players to impress during a pretty miserable 2014/15 campaign, scoring some stunning goals, most notably against Southampton, Bolton and Man City.
“He [Coutinho] has had a fantastic season – he has been one of the best midfield players in Europe – and when you think he has been playing in a team that has not been performing well that is an even bigger achievement,” Ronaldinho is quoted saying.
“I can’t speak for him and I can’t speak for Barcelona – but I know what Barcelona look for in a player and he has all those qualities.
“After all those years at the club Xavi has left and Iniestia is now in his 30’s – they will need to address that. That is why I think Barcelona and Coutinho would be the perfect fit.
“Playing with great players makes you better, I know that. Not only would he win trophies with Barcelona, but playing with Neymar, Messi, Suarez, Iniesta, is going to make him a better player.”
Thankfully, Coutinho pledged his future to Liverpool by signing a new deal in February.
“Liverpool have always shown a great warmth to me so when they came to me with a proposal I did not need to think twice to renew the contract,” he explained last month.
“I have always been looked after very well by this football club and I am very happy at this football club, so I didn’t even have to think about it.”
