Video: Joe Allen on whether he’s the Welsh Xavi or the Welsh Pirlo

In a couple of videos released ahead of the Euros starting this week, Joe Allen is the subject of some questions from Vauxhall Football, revealing whether he’s the Welsh Xavi or the Welsh Pirlo!

The Liverpool midfielder was infamously lauded as the Welsh Xavi by Brendan Rodgers upon signing for the Reds in 2012, but more recently – since changing his hair and finding form for the club under Jurgen Klopp – he’s been dubbed the Welsh Pirlo by fans.

It’s the latter which Allen himself says he prefers.

Allen also answers the usual ‘which team mate is the funniest’ and ‘who was your hero growing up’ type questions. But the Pirlo or Xavi question breaks the monotony nicely.

And in the video below, Allen talks about his love of animals and how he has chickens, ponies, geese, ducks, dogs… “the lot”!

Another revelation is that Joe’s favourite 90s song is The Offspring’s ‘Pretty Fly For A White Guy’.

He’s clearly a likeable character, and this week Wales skipper Ashley Williams revealed how liked he is in the national squad.

“Everyone loves Joe,” says Williams.

“We have a WhatsApp messaging group and at least once a week we have a Joe Allen Appreciation Day.

“Great beard, great haircut, great guy, he’s the main man in the squad. Class player too.”
