Liverpool to play Hertha Berlin in landmark pre-season friendly

Liverpool will play a pre-season friendly away to Hertha Berlin this summer, the club has announced, as part of their July tour of Germany.

The Reds will face the Bundesliga side on July 29 in a special game which will see both clubs mark their 125th anniversary in a game that will be played under the banner, ‘Celebrating football since 1892’.

The game will be held at the historic team’s home turf, the Olympiastadion Berlin, where the Reds last met the Berliners in 2008.

This will be the fourth time the two sides have met in friendly encounters and takes place just four days after Hertha BSC’s official 125th anniversary.

The game forms just part of the milestone celebrations for both teams with festivities planned throughout the 17/18 season.

After the match in Berlin, Jurgen Klopp‘s side then head to Munich for the Audi Cup, where they could face Bayern and Atletico Madrid.

Klopp’s side will be based in Germany for a training camp during these 10 days.

There will likely be domestic friendlies added to the calendar for earlier in July, and a strong likelihood of a friendly at Anfield the week before the season kicks off.
