Brighton linked with move for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez

Premier League new boys Brighton have been linked with a move for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez this summer.

Chris Hughton’s side have already been linked with a move for two other Liverpool players this summer, Lucas Leiva and Kevin Stewart, and now local reports on the south coast claim Gomez is a player they are interested in.

Gomez, 20, has been nursed back from a ruptured ACL, being used more for the under-23s this past season, making just three appearances for the first-team, all in the FA Cup.

He was on the bench for six league games, but found himself behind Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Lucas in Jurgen Klopp‘s centre-back options.

However, with more games next season due to European competition, Gomez should get more opportunities – with Klopp seeing him as a centre-back rather than a full-back.

Indeed, with Lucas almost certain to leave, but a new centre-back also arriving, Gomez should get game time in the League Cup, FA Cup and some other domestic fixtures.

The former Charlton man, who has also been linked with Bournemouth, could though be sent out on loan if Klopp feels he would benefit more from getting regular playing time.

Surely Liverpool wouldn’t entertain selling the talented England under-21 international this summer though.
