UEFA general secretary David Taylor draws Liverpool out during the Champions League Group Stage draw at the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco.

“Liverpool *should* be playing Champions League football in 2018” – Fans react to Reds’ Champions League group stage draw

Liverpool have learned who they will face in the Champions League group stage, with the Reds handed a kind task to make it into the knockout rounds.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side dispatched of Hoffenheim 4-2 at Anfield on Wednesday evening, with their 6-3 aggregate win enough to see them qualify for the Champions League “proper”.

They will take on Spartak Mascow, Sevilla and KN Maribor in Group E, and avoided a group of death involving Bayern Munich and PSG, and another with Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in it.

It is just the second time Liverpool have reached this stage since 2009/10, with their last campaign in 2014/15 a dire one, and they will look to get revenge on Sevilla after last year’s Europa League final defeat.

Here’s the best of the social media reaction to Thursday’s draw in Monaco.

I say Liverpool shouldn’t be cocky. The draw is reasonable but the travel looks brutal.

We should progress no excuses, but we probably would’ve had an even better chance of progression if we were in one of the tougher groups.

Literally the best possible Group apart from maybe Porto instead of Sevilla, got to go for it after that.
