Jurgen Klopp provides positive injury update on Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana

Liverpool duo Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana are on the road to recovery after long-term injury problems, Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

Neither Clyne (back) or Lallana (thigh) have featured for the Reds this season so far, with the former making just one appearance during pre-season.

Lallana was sidelined after the Audi Cup clash with Atletico Madrid in Munich, with Klopp confirming that the midfielder would be out for “a couple of months.”

A month into the season, and both players are continuing their rehabilitation at Melwood, and speaking at Liverpool’s training ground on Monday, Klopp was positive on their progress.

“Clyney, yesterday, had [his] third or fourth run outside, not the highest intensity but a big step, [and he has] coped well so far with this,” he said.

“Adam is close to going outside and running. Next step, I’ll give you another update in the next press conference!”

Klopp also confirmed that Danny Ings “trains completely normally,” with the striker likely to turn out for the Liverpool U23s against West Ham on Monday night.

Dejan Lovren is Klopp’s only other fitness concern heading into Tuesday’s League Cup clash with Leicester City, with the Croatian missing Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley due to a back injury.

But the 50-year-old expects Lovren to return to the fold at the King Power Stadium, and he could come straight back into the starting lineup.

“Dejan should be OK for tomorrow, but we will see,” he continued.

“If we can leave him out today it’s pretty likely he will be ready for tomorrow.”

If Lovren is unable to take part, however, Joe Gomez is likely to start at centre-back, with Jon Flanagan among those considered for the right-back berth.

“Dejan obviously didn’t play, now we have to see how we can line up at centre-half,” he added.

“Then is Joe at centre-half or full-back? We will see how we can do this, but [Flanagan] is in the mix for tomorrow for sure.”

Klopp has already confirmed that Danny Ward, Marko Grujic and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will all start against the Foxes, with Dominic Solanke also in line for his full debut for the Reds.
