Nabil Fekir’s agent confirms Liverpool interest, but Lyon want to push price up

Nabil Fekir’s agent has confirmed interest from Liverpool for the French international attacking midfielder.

The Reds have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old in the past week, with many expecting Fekir to become the second confirmed signing from Ligue 1 after Fabinho‘s arrival from Monaco last Monday.

There were even claims from France on Saturday night that Fekir was due to arrive on Merseyside on Sunday for a medical – claims which were since dismissed.

Now, Fekir’s agent has confirmed Liverpool’s interest, saying: “Liverpool’s interest exists, but for now nothing is done. The transfer window is long. Other clubs could show interest.

“Talks with Liverpool will only happen when there is an agreement with Lyon and Jean-Michel Aulas gives the green light.”

Lyon president Aulas seems more intent on playing a waiting game and hoping that a positive World Cup for the player forces his price up.

“I do not have an appointment with the leaders of Liverpool. There is no urgency at all. We are perfectly serene,” he explained.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are understandably keen to secure a deal before the World Cup for the versatile attacker, with Jurgen Klopp aiming to get business done early.

With less than a fortnight until the kick off in Russia, it will be a game of chess between Lyon and Liverpool; will the Reds place a bid big enough for the French club to accept it?

Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with interest in Fekir.

Liverpool, meanwhile, appear to have other candidates lined up if a deal for Fekir doesn’t materialise, with Malcom and Ousmane Dembele also linked.
