Joe Gomez’s message to fans after injury – “Be back stronger soon”

Joe Gomez is in positive spirits despite suffering a broken leg, with the youngster sending a message of thanks to Liverpool supporters.

The Reds suffered a huge blow on Wednesday night when Gomez was stretchered off early in the 3-1 win at Burnley, following a tackle by Ben Mee.

The 21-year-old has played his last football of 2018, with his injury set to keep him out of action for approximately six weeks.

Gomez has been one of Liverpool’s best players so far this season, shining at centre-back and maturing into one of the best young defenders in Europe.

Despite the setback of another serious injury, he appears in strong spirits, saying:

“I just wanted to thank you to you all for your kind messages and well wishes.

“Obviously I’m gutted to have picked up the injury but thankfully it’s not too serious and one that I can definitely be back stronger from soon.

“I’ll do my best to come back as quick as possible and hopefully be back with you guys soon. Thank you.”

It is a cruel blow for an outstanding footballer, but considering he has fractured his leg, the length of his layoff could easily have been far longer.

Liverpool will be tested without Gomez at the heart of the defence, with the likes of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip required to step up in a busy run of fixtures.

The England international was filling in effectively at right-back, too, so individuals such as Nathaniel Clyne and Rafa Camacho may also be needed in the festive period.

Gomez has been injury-plagued during his time at Liverpool, damaging his cruciate ligaments in 2015 and suffering from an Achilles problem in 2016.
