Boxing Day, 2018
Goals: Lovren (11′), Salah pen (48′), Shaqiri (79′), Fabinho (85′)
The Reds enjoyed a comfortable Boxing Day stroll against former boss Rafa Benitez, on a day when Man City were also beaten by Leicester City.
Dejan Lovren‘s screamer opened the scoring and Mohamed Salah‘s doubled Liverpool’s lead from the penalty spot early in the second-half.
Xherdan Shaqiri got in on the act from close-range, before Fabinho‘s first goal for the Reds completed the scoring late on.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the result on social media and our forums.
Lovren’s superb strike earned plenty of acclaim…
That’s some strike by Lovren.

Lovren's shooting practice clearly paying off then.

Lovren fires home a stunning finish, which is 100% because he said Liverpool could go unbeaten this season…….

“That was a heck of a finish. Thing is, now get ready for the Lovren stepovers. He’ll be well up for it.” – El Dorado on the forums.
Dejan definitely just won a bet with Mo.

Lovren just needed to welly it from 25 yards closer in than usual and it flew in!

Not a bad showing. Predictably, Newcastle stodgy and organized in defence.

“Firmino having a bad game, need a sub.” – Aaron Chen on Facebook.
“I would’ve took half time 1-0 lead. We should’ve run off the turkey by now so prepare for a better second-half.” – Scott Jones on the forums.
Good start, slowed up though. Shaqiri all over the place for first 20 minutes but hasn't done much since then.
Mane needs to pick it up. Trent firing some great passes around.

This is the ninth time Liverpool have lead 1-0 at half time in the league this season.
Won the previous eight, with 10-2 total goal tally in the second halves.

Supporters couldn’t believe Liverpool were actually awarded a home league penalty…
The first @LFC penalty in the league at Anfield in 424 days.

Can't believe we got a pen
— Joseph Cousins (@JCuzzy1) December 26, 2018
No shock the first home pen in 14 months was hilariously bad defending
— Phil Blundell (@PhilBlundell) December 26, 2018
Liverpool get a league penalty at Anfield. It's a Christmas miracle!

Fabinho’s first-ever Reds goal was met with great joy…

Liverpool’s current brilliance was universally praised…
Have to say, #LFC really are playing with supreme belief, as though they knew they would win from the start. Not a bad mentality to have when you are genuine contenders for the title.
— David Maddock (@MaddockMirror) December 26, 2018
A professional and clinical performance from Liverpool who are of course still top of the league. 4-0.
A lot of love shown from both sets of fans for Rafa too, a top class manager who has been badly let down by the NUFC hierarchy.
— Jim Boardman (@JimBoardman) December 26, 2018
WWWWWWDDWWDWWWWWWWW and still undefeated in the league #LFC and top of the leauge https://t.co/mEkWPWwb5n
