On arguably the greatest night in Anfield history, Liverpool reached the Champions League final after a 4-0 win over Barcelona.
Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona (4-3 agg)
Champions League Semi-Final, Second Leg, Anfield
May 7, 2019
Goals: Origi 7′, 79′, Wijnaldum 54′, 56′
The Reds went into the tie with an incredibly slim chance of progressing, but what unfolded was bordering on unprecedented.
Divock Origi opened the scoring early on, pouncing from the rebound after Jordan Henderson‘s effort had been saved.
A quickfire double from substitute Gini Wijnaldum in the second half put Jurgen Klopp‘s team in dreamland, before Origi’s brilliantly worked second of the night sent them through.
The emotion after the final whistle was truly remarkable, amid scenes of unbridled joy, and the final in Madrid against Ajax or Tottenham awaits.
Here’s how fans saw the game on social media and our forums.
The victory was met with unrivalled delirium and emotion…

I now understand what Klopp meant a few weeks ago when he called this #LFC team "mentality monsters". That was an absolutely unbelievable effort — 3-0 down, no Salah, no Firmino — and they win 4-3. Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable.

“What the fuck did I just watch?”
– Dark Metal on the forums.
That wasn’t football. That was heart, sweat, passion, blood, tears, determination. A team depleted, a team who wouldn’t say no. A TEAM GOING TO MADRID. #LFC

What a night for my son to see his auld man cry for the first time. I’m a wreck.

Trent earned plaudits for his opportunism and all-round performance…
Alexander Arnold’s corner was a Jedi Mind Trick. Origi not even looking until he felt a tremor in the force.

Trent Alexander-Arnold vs Barcelona:
76 touches (most on team)
8 crosses (most on pitch)
4 interceptions (most on pitch)
2 shots (most on team)
2 key passes (most on pitch)
1 assist20 years old. In a Champions League semi-final. Against the greatest player on the planet.

Alexander-Arnold utterly unfazed on the biggest stage. The awareness to play the corner when Barcelona’s defenders are caught napping is just sublime. Ter Stegen is still clapping his teammates as the ball hits the back of the net.

Various other individuals were singled out for special praise…
Fabinho is world class btw.

Henderson playing on one leg, Origi on empty.
Trent's brains.
The sheer standards of Alisson + VVD.
Fabinho's telescopic tackles.
The unsung Matip.
Milner.
Mane.
Wijnaldum. Was in Istanbul and that was the unlikeliest comeback. But as a performance this was Liverpool's best.
— Jonathan Northcroft (@JNorthcroft) May 7, 2019
Jordan Henderson belting out ‘Allez Allez Allez’. A real captain’s performance tonight. Could’ve gone off in the first-half with an injury but battled through and helped carry the fight. This means so much.
— Leanne Prescott (@_lfcleanne) May 7, 2019
Fabinho’s performance tonight was Herculean.
— Empire of the Kop (@empireofthekop) May 7, 2019
Alisson my MoM even though so many great performances. He made like half a dozen fantastic saves and was confident and calm throughout.

“Statue already being forged for Trent and Divock.”

There were a lot of heroes out there for Liverpool tonight. Every one of them, actually. If I had to pick one, it would be Henderson. He was superhuman.
