Reds won’t be travelling pre-season

Rafa Benitez has told how his side will be taking pre-season a little lighter to prevent post-World Cup hangover for his players, some of whom will have been playing for 12 months solid without any break if they take part in Germany.

The Reds are not expected to travel on a mini-tour of the Far East or America, which the club have done in recent seasons. And will return to their base in Switzerland in mid-to-late July.

The club’s schedule has been particularly heavy since the Champions League success last May, including the World Club Cup down in Japan last December.

The club have already announced they will play Crewe at the Alexandra stadium on July 22nd.

Any pre-season plans will be affected by qualifying rounds for next season’s Champions League, should the Reds finish third.

The win over Bolton on Sunday has gauranteed a top four finish for the club and therefore Champions League football.
