Line-up vs Newcastle Utd

Liverpool welcome back captain Steven Gerrard for this afternoon’s Premier League clash at home to relegation-threatened Newcastle United at Anfield.

Victory is essential for Rafa Benitez’s men to keep up the pressure on league leaders Manchester United, who extended their lead at the top to six points with a win at Middlesbrough yesterday.

Gerrard starts for the first time since April 8th, but striker Fernando Torres is sidelined through a reoccurrence of an hamstring injury.

Daniel Agger, who signed a new contract with the Reds this weekend, comes in for Martin Skrtel at centre-back.

Dirk Kuyt looks set to spearhead the Liverpool attack with Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun manning the wings.

Liverpool: Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Agger, Mascherano, Alonso, Kuyt, Benayoun, Gerrard, Riera. Subs: Cavalieri, Skrtel, Ngog, Dossena, Babel, Lucas, El Zhar.

Newcastle meanwhile have left former Red Michael Owen on the bench.

Kick-off at Anfield is 1.30pm and you can follow it live with other fans in our forums or chat room. The game is live on Setanta Sports in the UK.
