Dalglish beaming after double triumph over Mancs

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish couldn’t hide his delight as he watched his side conquer a second Manchester club in a week at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds left it late to book a fifth round FA Cup place when Dirk Kuyt netted an 89th minute winner against Manchester Utd at Anfield to beat the visitors 2-1.

Earlier this week, the Reds overcame league leaders Manchester City in the Carling Cup Semi-Final, drawing 2-2 on the night at Anfield, winning 3-2 on aggregate.

The two results come after a dismal away performance against Bolton last Saturday in which the Reds went down 3-1.

Dalglish said after today’s game, “The week started badly for us at Bolton and it’s fantastic credit to the players and how much pride they take in this football club to get themselves back on track as quickly as they did.

“It was a fantastic effort from our players after what they went through on Wednesday night. To ask them to come back and play on the Saturday morning was maybe pushing it a bit far but their commitment, their attitude and their desire to get a result was fantastic.

“I can’t speak highly enough of them after that performance and result today.”
