LFC Under 21’s replicate first-team with set-piece fragility

Liverpool had Dulwich Hamlet youngster Daniel Carr starting up front after impressing during a trial spell last week, while first-team players Jonjo Shelvey, Andre Wisdom, Suso and Raheem Sterling were also in Alex Inglethorpe’s line-up.

Suso, Shelvey and Sterling in particular were impressive, as were the side as a whole in the attacking third.

Liverpool’s goals arrived from Suso (2) and Sterling, but poor defending from three corners allowed West Ham a share of the points.

Keeper Danny Ward at fault for the first, full back Craig Roddan for the second and centre-back Wisdom for the third.

Afterwards, Inglethorpe said he wouldn’t be bothered about goals from corners in “an under 12s match” but not enough for players who want loans. Captain Connor Coady said “It’s down to the players… we didn’t defend properly today”.

Liverpool U21’s: Ward, McLaughlin (Randall), Wisdom, Coady, Roddan; Shelvey, Teixeira, Suso, Nacho, Sterling (Peterson), Carr (Morgan).
