Williams, Ben Arfa and Eriksen on Rodgers summer wishlist

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is targeting “three or four” quality singings this summer as he looks to continue the development of his squad.

Among his top targets are Swansea centre-back Ashley Williams, Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa, Ajax attacker Cristian Eriksen and Feyenoord defender Stefan De Vrij.

“I am happy with the squad if I can then put another three or four quality players to it,” explains Rodgers. “It is quality we are after, not quantity.”

“You want between 20 and 22 players. I’m talking about two in every position and your three goalkeepers. Then below that having young players who can support that.”

The Telegraph report that Rodgers last week gave youngster Raheem Sterling the week off as he seeks to ensure the teenager is fresh for next season, while Suso may be loaned out for experience next season.

“Suso has clearly shown he has been a very good cover player for us this season, the longer plan for him we have to have a look. Does he actually have to go and play somewhere for a year and get experience?”

The Times report that Williams, Ben Arfa, Eriksen and de Vrij are being monitored, along with Partizan Belgrade forward Lazar Markovic and Feyenoord’s versatile Dutch defender Bruno Martins who can play left-back and centre-back.

Reports suggest Rodgers will be given £20m to spend this summer, plus whatever he raises from player sales. We recently explained how that can easily be around the £40m mark, providing a healthy £60m kitty.
